Synspective is a Japanese private Earth-imaging company with the mission to create a learning world where people can expand their capabilities and make tangible progress with new data and technologies. The company successfully developed a small, lightweight and highly compressed SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) system in collaboration with the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) and the Hirokawa Laboratory of School of Engineering and Tokyo Institute of Technology. The company is building a constellation of its own small SAR satellites called 'StriX' to provide data and analytic information to governments and commercial organizations. The company ultimately plans to deploy a constellation of more than 30 satellites. Synspective’s 100kg class SAR satellites are innovative, compact, and low-cost and can consistently and reliably gather data, regardless of the time of day or weather conditions. Synspective’s SAR satellites can obtain data covering over 1,000km2 in 1-3m resolution anywhere in the world. Synspective provides SAR data and remote monitoring services to government agencies and companies worldwide. The company was founded in February 2018 in Koto, Japan by CEO Motoyuki Arai and Board Director Seiko Shirasaka. The first StriX satellite was launched on Rocket Lab’s ‘The Owl’s Night Begins’ Mission on December 15th, 2020 from the launch Complex 1 on the Mahai Peninsula in New Zealand.
